Chief of Police Hill J. Cates, aged 51, of the Huntsville Police Department in Texas, tragically lost his life on September 29, 1901. He was shot and killed while investigating threats made by a suspect. Chief Cates went to the suspect's home to question him about these threats, which ultimately led to his untimely death.
