Constable W. G. Reddick, aged 35, was shot and killed on April 26, 1903, in Zummo, Texas. Reddick, who served with the Jefferson County Constable's Office - Precinct 1, was attempting to shut down a gambling saloon that was operating past the city-mandated closing time of midnight. As he tried to enter the saloon, the keeper of the establishment shot him in the chest. The suspect was promptly arrested and charged with murder.
