John Morris Cain, a 31-year-old male police officer with the Houston Police Department, tragically died on August 4, 1911, in Houston, Texas. Officer Cain was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a suspect who had hopped onto a freight train. When Officer Cain called for the suspect to stop, the man turned and fired two shots, killing him instantly. The suspect, later identified as Houston Sharp, fled the scene but was eventually arrested in 1915 for a series of burglaries and hold-ups.
