Almer Loin Terry, a 44-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Hutchinson County Sheriff's Office in Texas. On April 1, 1927, Terry and his colleague, Deputy Daniel Kenyon, responded to a tip about a bank robbery planned by the notorious "Cotton Top Walker Gang". As they arrived at the scene, they were ambushed and shot by gang members who had just robbed the bank.
Both Terry and Kenyon were killed in the gunfire.
The "Cotton Top Walker Gang" was led by the Kimes brothers, who had a history of criminal activities, including the murder of Deputy Perry Chuculate in Oklahoma the previous year. Following the deaths of Terry and Kenyon, the gang continued its crime spree, resulting in additional murders and robberies. Matthew Kimes, one of the gang leaders, was eventually arrested in Flagstaff, Arizona, on June 23, 1927.
The tragic deaths of Terry and Kenyon were part of a larger series of violent incidents involving the gang, which also claimed the lives of other law enforcement officers in the region. Terry was single and had no children, and he was laid to rest in the White Deer Cemetery in Carson County, Texas.
