Dorothy Haggard, a six-year-old girl from Vernon, Texas, tragically died on December 25, 1929. She was found shot to death in her family's home along with her father, J.H. Haggard, and her siblings. The incident occurred in their poverty-stricken home, and it was believed that Dorothy's father shot his children while they were sleeping before taking his own life.
