On August 6, 1966, 15-year-old Marcus Dunnam was visiting his cousin, Robert Brand, in Alvarado, Texas. Marcus, who enjoyed playing the drums, had been visiting his grandmother in Fort Worth. That evening, Marcus and Robert drove to Everman to visit Robert's girlfriend, Louise Sullivan. Louise was a popular student at Everman High School and volunteered at her church's daycare center.
Tragically, Marcus Dunnam, along with Robert Brand and Louise Sullivan, was murdered by Kenneth Allen McDuff, also known as the "Broomstick Killer". McDuff and his accomplice, Roy Dale Green, kidnapped and murdered the three teenagers. McDuff was later arrested and sentenced to death for these crimes. However, his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment due to a Supreme Court ruling in 1972. McDuff was paroled in 1989 but was eventually rearrested and executed in 1998 for additional murders committed during his time as a free man.
