James C. Gaul, a 36-year-old male police officer with the Fort Worth Police Department, tragically died on January 10, 1979, five days after being shot during a shootout. Officer Gaul and another officer responded to a call reporting a man with a gun. As they approached the front door of the house, they encountered a deranged man who opened fire, wounding Officer Gaul. Despite immediate medical attention, Officer Gaul succumbed to his injuries.
