On the night of May 19, 1981, Rosalin Suarez Jr., a 23-year-old police officer with the McAllen Police Department, responded to a silent alarm at a business in McAllen, Texas. Officer Suarez was shot and killed during a foot pursuit of a burglar. The suspect, a 29-year-old man, was later arrested in possession of Officer Suarez's duty weapon, which he had stolen during the assault.
