Guy P. Gaddis, a 24-year-old white male police officer with the Houston Police Department, was tragically killed on January 31, 1994, while transporting two handcuffed prisoners to jail. Officer Gaddis was shot in the back of the head three times by one of the prisoners, Edgar Arias Tamayo, who had managed to conceal a gun.
