Hyon Suk Chon, a 51-year-old Korean woman, tragically lost her life on September 11, 1994, in Ellis, Texas. She was working at a convenience store when she was approached by Leon Dorsey, who pulled out a gun and forced her into the back room. Instead of forcing her to open a safe, Dorsey shot her once in the back of the head, killing her instantly.
Leon Dorsey, also known as "Pistol Pete," was a twice-convicted killer with a history of violence. He had previously murdered two employees at a Blockbuster Video store in East Dallas during a robbery in April 1994. Dorsey was arrested and questioned by the police after the Blockbuster murders, but they believed his innocence and didn't see a reason to connect him to the crimes at that time. However, five months later, he committed another robbery and murder, this time targeting Hyon Suk Chon.
Dorsey was eventually arrested again for the murder of Hyon Suk Chon and the previous murders at the Blockbuster. He was found guilty and sentenced to 60 years in prison in 1995. Later, in 2000, it was revealed that Dorsey was the man behind the Blockbuster murders, and he was sentenced to death. Leon Dorsey was executed on August 12, 2008, in the Huntsville Unit in Huntsville, Texas.
The tragic death of Hyon Suk Chon and the subsequent investigation and legal proceedings brought justice for her and the other victims of Leon Dorsey's violent crimes. The case remains a somber reminder of the impact of such senseless acts of violence on individuals and their families.
