Keith George Ruiz, a 36-year-old Hispanic male, was a Deputy Sheriff for Travis County, Texas, near Austin. He had served with the Travis County Sheriff's Department for 12 years. On February 15, 2001, Deputy Ruiz was part of a SWAT Team working with the Capital Area Narcotics Task Force. The team was attempting to serve a narcotics warrant at a mobile home.
