John Edward Logan, a 33-year-old male police officer with the Huntington Police Department in Texas, tragically died on March 13, 2004. Officer Logan was shot during a traffic stop when he attempted to arrest a driver who had outstanding warrants. As he approached the suspect, the individual pulled out a handgun and shot Officer Logan in the head and back. Despite being flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The suspect fled the scene but was later chased into Nacogdoches County by officers. He barricaded himself inside a mobile home for two hours before ultimately committing suicide. Officer Logan had served with the Huntington Police Department for three years and is survived by his wife, three children, parents, and siblings.
The incident led to a significant investigation, but since the suspect took his own life, there were no arrests or further litigations related to the case.
