Levi Duty, a 23-year-old male from Cookeville, Tennessee, was found dead in Galveston, Texas, on August 9, 2006. His body was discovered in the trunk of a rental car, and he had died from a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators were unable to determine whether the gunshot was self-inflicted or not.
The circumstances surrounding Levi Duty's death were part of a broader investigation by Galveston police, who were also looking into the death of another man, Eleazar Lugo Jr., 32, from
San Antonio. Lugo was found dead from self-inflicted stab wounds, and his body was discovered floating in the surf on the west end of Galveston Island. The proximity of the two deaths led authorities to probe whether they were connected.
Despite extensive investigations, no arrests or suspects were publicly identified in connection with Levi Duty's death. The case did not lead to any known litigations or murder trials. The Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office concluded that Duty had been dead for at least a day before his body was found.
