On March 17, 2010, Amy Renea Thornhill Mayfield, a 37-year-old white female, was found deceased in her home in Cedar Hill, Texas. Born on October 6, 1972, to Larry and Joyce Thornhill, Amy was affectionately known as "MeMe" by her family. She is survived by her parents, sister Lisa Thornhill-Hagerich, brother Sterling Thornhill, niece Chelsea Rogers, and several other relatives. Her grandparents and uncles preceded her in death. Amy was also survived by her beloved dogs, Ruby, Lucy, and Dixie.
According to reports, friends who had not heard from Amy's husband, Jerry Mayfield, in several days went to check on the couple at their residence on Sharon Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Amy's body wrapped in a sheet in the garage and Jerry's body in his car, also in the garage. Both appeared to have died from gunshot wounds. Authorities indicated that Jerry Mayfield, 45, had left notes and emails detailing the circumstances of their deaths, leading investigators to consider the incident a murder-suicide.
Amy's funeral services were held on March 22, 2010, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel in Duncanville, Texas, with burial following at Red Oak Cemetery.
No further information regarding arrests or additional suspects has been reported in connection with this case.
