On the evening of February 16, 2014, 56-year-old Hispanic female Sylvia Jean Salazar was tragically killed in a shooting at the North Side Outlaws Bar in Fort Worth, Texas. The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. during a fundraiser event that Sylvia attended after participating in a memorial for a woman and child who had died in a recent house fire. According to her daughter, Melanie Villarreal, Sylvia had gone to the bar to relax following the day's events.
She was struck by a stray bullet during the gunfire and later died at John Peter Smith Hospital.
The shooting left four men injured, two of whom were in serious condition and transported to local hospitals. One of the injured men ran to the nearby Cadillac Bar to seek help, prompting staff to call 911. Investigators were working to determine the motive behind the shooting and whether any of the injured individuals were involved as suspects. At the time, no arrests had been made, and police were seeking information from the public to identify those responsible.
Sylvia Jean Salazar was remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished her family. She is survived by her husband, Ronny Salazar; sons, Gene Villarreal and Estephen Salazar; daughters, Melani Valle and Kendra Salazar; grandchildren; great-grandchild; siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her funeral services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
As of the latest available information, the case remains unsolved, with no arrests reported. Authorities continue to seek leads to bring justice for Sylvia Jean Salazar and her family.
