Justin Michael Aguilar, a 15-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity from Longview, Texas, tragically died on March 9, 2014. Aguilar was shot by police following an attempted robbery at a gas station in Longview. According to reports, Aguilar attempted to rob the New-Way gas station located in the 1300 block of S. Green Street. A store clerk provided a description of Aguilar, who was later found a short distance away.
When confronted by police, Aguilar allegedly began shooting at the officers' car, hitting the rear window and passenger side door. In response, an officer exited the vehicle and pursued Aguilar, ultimately shooting him in a backyard on the 300 block of E. Avalon Ave.
Aguilar's death sparked controversy and sadness within the community. Friends and classmates described him as a respectful and well-behaved individual who never caused trouble. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots during the incident, and the Longview Independent School District released a statement expressing their grief over the loss of the young student.
Following the incident, an autopsy revealed that Aguilar had marijuana in his system at the time of his death. However, there were no arrests or suspects named in connection with his death, as the police officers involved were deemed to have acted in self-defense. No litigation or murder charges were filed against anyone in relation to Aguilar's death.
