The incident occurred when Keen, who was celebrating St. Patrick's Day, mistakenly entered the wrong house after taking a cab home. The 64-year-old woman who shot him believed he was an intruder and fired two shots through the door in self-defense.
Keen, who was off-duty at the time, was rushed to a Houston hospital but
later pronounced dead. The woman, who was home alone, was not initially arrested. The case was sent to a grand jury to determine whether any charges would be filed against her. The tragic event was described as a 'confluence of events' by Houston Mayor Annise Parker, emphasizing that no one did anything wrong.
Keen, who had joined the Houston Fire Department in 2010 and also served in the Marines, was remembered fondly by his colleagues and community.
