Jasmine Luquinta Powell, a 29-year-old woman, tragically lost her life on June 2, 2014, in Kountze, Texas. She was fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend, Sandy Ray Irvine, at her residence on Pecan Street. Irvine, who was 43 years old at the time, also shot Powell's new boyfriend, Terrion Moffett, four times in the back. Powell was found on the front porch of her home with a gunshot wound to the back of her head.
Following the incident, Irvine was charged with murder and aggravated assault
with a deadly weapon. He was later sentenced to 50 years in prison for Powell's murder and an additional 20 years for the aggravated assault of Moffett. Irvine changed his plea to guilty, avoiding a trial, and was eligible for parole in 25 years.
Powell was raising her two younger siblings at the time of her death, as their mother had passed away. Her younger brother and sister, along with Moffett, provided impact statements during the sentencing phase of Irvine's trial.
The case drew significant attention in Kountze and the surrounding areas, highlighting the devastating impact of domestic violence and the importance of addressing such issues within communities.
