On September 3, 2014, Zhi Liu, a 55-year-old Asian female, was found deceased in her Mission Bend, Texas home. Authorities discovered her body along with that of her 22-year-old son, Bang An, who was also of Asian descent. Both had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. The Harris County Sheriff's Department identified Zhi Liu's husband, 53-year-old Peide Yang, as the primary suspect in the double homicide. Yang was charged with murder following the incident.
Neighbors reported that the family had moved into the two-story brick home on La Mancha Drive only a few months prior to the tragedy. They described the family as quiet, with Zhi Liu often seen briskly walking through the neighborhood, offering cheerful greetings despite her limited English proficiency. Her son, Bang An, known to neighbors as Michael, was an accomplished musician studying music and was frequently seen maintaining the lawn, appearing proud of their home. Peide Yang worked as a security guard at a local bank. The motive for the slayings remained under investigation at the time.
