Richard Bruce Lowery, a 59-year-old White male, died on September 26, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois. Born on January 26, 1959, in Festus, Missouri, he was the son of Richard Lowery and Norma Roehrs Lowery Robinson. He spent much of his life in the region, attending Jacksonville High School and later graduating from Shawneetown Community High School in 1978. Following his education, he served in the United States Navy for four years, stationed at Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois and aboard the U.S.S. Constellation CV 64 in Coronado, California.
After his military service, Lowery returned to the area and embarked on a career in corrections. He was employed as a correctional officer at the Jacksonville Correctional Center starting in 1985, eventually rising to the rank of sergeant before retiring in 2012. Following his retirement from the Department of Corrections, he established and operated his own business, Lowery Mowing and Lawn Care, which he managed until declining health necessitated his full retirement. He was known for his love of the outdoors, particularly boating, fishing, and golfing, and was a dedicated fan of St. Louis sports teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues.
Lowery passed away due to health complications rather than as a result of foul play. His death was attributed to natural causes following a period of declining health that had forced him to cease his business operations. As his passing was not a homicide, there were no police investigations, suspects, arrests, or criminal charges associated with his death. He was survived by his wife, Donna Suttles, whom he married in 1986, as well as his two sons, a granddaughter, his mother, and several siblings. Funeral services were held at Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery.
