Catherine Dyer, a 31-year-old woman from Austin, Texas, was found dead in her home on November 16, 2015. Catherine, who was known for her generosity and kindness, was discovered unresponsive in her bedroom with a bloodied head. The initial examination revealed that she had died from blunt force trauma. Neighbors reported hearing a violent argument between Catherine and her boyfriend, Kevin Michael "Mike" Waguespack, on the night of her death.
They heard things breaking and Mike ordering Catherine to remain quiet. Concerned for her safety, a neighbor went to check on her and found her unresponsive. The police were called, and first responders declared her dead at the scene.
The investigation quickly identified Kevin Michael Waguespack as the primary suspect. At around 2 am on November 17, 2015, while authorities were still examining the crime scene, they received a phone call from a person claiming to be Mike Waguespack. During the call, Mike allegedly confessed to killing Catherine and expressed remorse for his actions. However, the call was disconnected before the police could trace it. Another of Mike's friends also received a call that night, during which Mike admitted to having "messed up big time" and anticipated going to prison for a long time.
Kevin Michael Waguespack was charged with murder in the death of Catherine Dyer. He was captured in Adams County, Mississippi, after a brief standoff with police. An autopsy confirmed that Catherine's cause of death was homicide. Neighbors described hearing a struggle and seeing signs of a violent altercation in the home, including broken blinds and items being thrown around. One neighbor, Mark Rangel, recounted hearing Catherine crying and the sound of something heavy dropping, which ultimately led to the police being called.
Waguespack was initially taken into custody and faced extradition to Austin to stand trial for the murder of Catherine Dyer. However, in a surprising turn of events, Waguespack was released on a $250,000 bond in June 2016. As part of his bond terms, he was required to wear a GPS ankle monitor and report to court regularly. Despite objections from the Travis County District Attorney's Office, a judge granted Waguespack's request to have the GPS monitor removed for work purposes in April 2017. Shortly after the monitor was removed, Waguespack failed to appear in court for a final hearing before his trial, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The case remains unresolved, with Waguespack still missing and justice for Catherine Dyer yet to be served. Her family and friends continue to seek answers and closure, hoping that Waguespack will eventually be brought to justice for his actions.
