In early December 2010, the Kansas City community was shaken by the violent death of 20-year-old African American resident Marion C. Denmon III. The young man was a passenger in a vehicle traveling near the intersection of Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard and Elmwood Avenue when the car came under fire.
