Officer Steven Michael Franco, aged 38, passed away on April 19, 2016, in San Antonio, Texas. He was a well-rounded, multi-talented, loving family man and a friend to many. Steven was very patriotic and loved his ten-year service as a police officer and eighteen years as an Army Reservist. He was great at barbecuing, being with his family, and enjoyed playing games with his kids.
Steven was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Amado Frias, and paternal grandparents Juan and Anita Franco. Survivors include his loving wife, Leslie Franco, six children, his parents, two sisters, his grandmother, an uncle, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Steven's body was found in his patrol car in an industrial area south of Loop 410 and Rigsby Avenue. Investigators determined that Steven died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. At the time, Chief Bill McManus said officers launched a search for Steven when he failed to report to the substation at the end of his shift. Steven was a 10-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department.
There were no arrests, suspects, litigations, or murder investigations related to Steven's death, as it was determined to be a suicide. The San Antonio Police Department confirmed that Steven's death was self-inflicted.
Steven Franco's death was a tragic loss for his family, friends, and the community. His dedication to his work as a police officer and his service as an Army Reservist were remembered by many who knew him.
