On June 8, 2011, Andre Blocker, a 37-year-old resident of St. Louis, Missouri, was found shot to death in the Penrose neighborhood of the city. His body was discovered in the 4800 block of Bessie Avenue, where he had been gunned down on a lawn. Police responded to the scene late in the afternoon after receiving reports about the shooting. The homicide was the 56th in St. Louis that year and remains part of a tragic pattern of violent crime that has plagued the area.
