On the early morning of September 18, 2016, 25-year-old African American woman Aisha Nicole McGee was tragically shot and killed in Tyler, Texas. The incident occurred around 2:44 a.m. in the 3100 block of Pointe North Drive, directly across from Club Ice, a local nightclub. Alongside her, 30-year-old Steven Ray Smith, an African American man, was also found deceased at the scene. Both victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
According to family members, Aisha McGee had been at Club Ice that night celebrating a new job she had recently secured at the post office. Relatives described her as a loving and caring mother of two young children. Ann Reed, a family member, expressed the difficulty the family faced in informing McGee's children of their mother's passing, noting that the youngest child was still asking for her.
The Tyler Police Department responded to the shooting after a security guard heard gunshots and discovered the victims. At the time, authorities indicated they had a possible suspect but did not release further details. The Texas Rangers were also involved in assisting with the investigation.
As of now, there have been no arrests made in connection with the deaths of Aisha Nicole McGee and Steven Ray Smith.
