Sherry Banks, a 62-year-old Caucasian woman, was tragically murdered on May 12, 2017, near her home in Edom, Texas, while driving her car. Sherry was born on August 16, 1954, in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was a valued member of both the Santa Barbara and Edom communities. Sherry and her son, Richard Banks II, moved to Edom about nine years before her death from California.
She was well-known as a loving caregiver to the elderly in the Edom area and was actively involved in the Edom Civic Theatre as an actor and supporter. Sherry also participated in United Methodist Women and had a deep appreciation for beauty and nature. She was a nurturing and fun-loving lady with a heart of gold.
On the day of her death, Sherry was driving on FM 279 in Van Zandt County when she was shot and killed by an unknown assailant. Detectives were left with few leads, and the case remains unsolved. Sherry's murder shocked the community, and her family and friends have been seeking answers ever since. Sherry's memorial services were held on May 28, 2017, at Edom United Methodist Church, where friends and family gathered to remember her life and mourn her loss. Sherry's legacy as a loving caregiver, devoted mother, and active community member lives on in the hearts of those who knew her.
