Matthew Travis Martinez, a 22-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity from San Antonio, Texas, tragically lost his life on September 27, 2016. He was a college student working towards a degree in nursing and was a former resident of Beeville, Texas. Martinez was born on July 25, 1994, in Angleton, Texas, and graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 2012.
On the day of his death, Martinez was found at La Paloma Apartments on W.
Rampart Drive, along with two other victims, Pedro Garcia and Anthony Rodrigues. All three men were discovered with multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation revealed that Jacob Brownson, who was in jail on an unrelated aggravated assault charge at the time, was accused of the triple murder. According to the murder warrant, Brownson allegedly killed the three men while his wife and three young children waited in a van outside the apartment complex.
The case faced several delays, including those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the recusal of the District Attorney's Office when Joe Gonzales took office. Despite these delays, Brownson's trial finally began in 2023. If found guilty, Brownson faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The tragic loss of Matthew Travis Martinez, along with Pedro Garcia and Anthony Rodrigues, has been a significant case in San Antonio, drawing attention to the complexities and delays often encountered in the legal system.
