Fredrick Lee Clark, a 20-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on October 6, 2016, in Waco, Texas. The incident occurred in the afternoon while Fredrick and others were engaged in a dice game in a parking lot near Baylor University. The gathering was interrupted when a black male approached the group on foot and began shooting. Fredrick was struck by the gunfire and, despite the efforts of the responding officers who performed CPR on him multiple times, he succumbed to his
injuries at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Tyrell Jordan Dever, was arrested and charged with murder. According to the police, the shooting was not a random act; it was believed that Fredrick and the suspect knew each other. The area where the shooting took place was known for activities such as gambling, drinking, and drug use. The suspect fled the scene initially on foot and then in a car, which was later found at a nearby apartment complex. The police emphasized that the public was not in danger following the incident.
The shooting prompted Baylor University to issue a security alert and temporarily go on lockdown. The lockdown was lifted shortly after it was determined that the suspect had left the area. The police investigation revealed that the suspect was wearing a white t-shirt and khaki shorts at the time of the shooting.
