Charles E. Levingston Jr., a 40-year-old Black man, was killed on the evening of November 8, 2011, after gunfire erupted outside a Fast Stop convenience store on Blue Ridge Cutoff in Kansas City, Missouri. It was the kind of place people drift in and out of without thinking twice—quick stops for cigarettes, a drink, a few minutes under bright lights—until the call came in that changed the tone of the whole block.
