The suspect in Timothy's death, 25-year-old Paris Camtrail Richardson, was arrested on June 2, 2017, in Louisiana by U.S.
Marshals and later extradited to Nueces County. Richardson was found guilty of murder in the shooting death of Timothy Echols Jr. During the trial, it was revealed that Richardson and Echols knew each other and that the incident occurred during an attempted drug deal. Richardson claimed self-defense, but the jury did not accept this argument.
On May 7, 2018, Richardson was convicted of murder and sentenced to 50 years in prison with a $10,000 fine.
