On March 26, 2017, Christopher Beatty, a 33-year-old male, was tragically killed in a shooting at the Haverstock Hills Apartments in northeast Harris County, Houston, TX. The incident occurred during an argument that escalated when two brothers, Harvey and Jeremy Jones, arrived at the scene. Harvey Jones allegedly pointed a semi-automatic rifle at the group, and his brother Jeremy Jones fired approximately 18 rounds, hitting six people.
Christopher Beatty was shot in the leg and lower back and was rushed to LBJ Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the shooting, both Harvey and Jeremy Jones were charged. Harvey Jones was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, while Jeremy Jones faced capital murder charges for the deaths of Christopher Beatty and Gary Wayne Rusher, another victim. However, charges against Jeremy Jones were later dropped due to a case of mistaken identity. His brother, Kenneth Emmitt Jones, was subsequently charged with capital murder.
The tragic incident led to a community rally at Haverstock Hills, where residents called for increased security measures, including cameras, guards, and better access control. The families of the victims continue to seek justice and have expressed their grief and frustration over the loss of their loved ones.
