Corey Lamar, a 25-year-old man from Anna, Texas, tragically lost his life on July 14, 2017. He was fatally shot in what was determined to be a targeted attack at his residence on Creekside Drive. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. when multiple shots were fired into the house, one of which struck Corey, causing a fatal injury. Corey was found unconscious inside the home and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Following the shooting, Anna police launched an investigation
and quickly identified Ruben Christopher Jenkins, a 20-year-old man from Allen, as a suspect. Jenkins was arrested on a murder warrant the following day and was held in the Collin County Detention Facility on a $150,000 bond. The investigation revealed that Corey had recently moved to Anna and was renting a room at the house where the shooting occurred. It was believed that Corey knew the people responsible for the attack, and the police emphasized that this was not a random act of violence.
The case marked the first homicide investigation for the Anna Police Department since its formation in 2005. The department worked collaboratively with the Texas Rangers and the Collin County Sheriff's Office to ensure that the correct person was charged and arrested for the crime. The efforts of these agencies were praised by Anna Police Chief Kenneth Jenks, who described the investigation as a great collaborative effort.
Corey Lamar was remembered fondly by his family and friends. He was born on February 23, 1992, in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and raised in De Soto, Kansas. Corey enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, mushroom hunting, and riding motorcycles. He was a huge fan of the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team. His funeral was held on July 22, 2017, in De Soto, Kansas, where he was laid to rest.
The tragic loss of Corey Lamar left a lasting impact on his loved ones and the community, and the arrest of Ruben Christopher Jenkins brought some measure of justice for the senseless act of violence.
