Darrence O'Brien Kindle, a 31-year-old Black man from Lufkin, Texas, tragically lost his life on November 3, 2017. He was fatally shot at a Dollar General store during an attempted robbery. The incident occurred when an armed man wearing a "Scream" mask entered the store and demanded money from the register. During the robbery, the suspect fired a round from a handgun, striking Darrence in the head.
Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Darrence succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect fled the scene on foot, heading into a wooded area near the store. The Lufkin Police Department conducted an extensive investigation but found few leads. The suspect was described as a Black male, likely in his teens to 20s, around 5'10" to 6' tall, and wearing red Nike Air Zoom Kobe Venomenon 4 basketball shoes. The police have continued to seek public assistance in solving this cold case, offering a reward for information leading to an arrest and grand jury indictment.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the case remains unsolved, and the suspect has not been apprehended. The Lufkin Police Department has periodically released information and asked for tips from the public in hopes of finding new leads. The investigation continues, and the family and friends of Darrence Kindle still seek justice for his untimely death.
