In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 4, 2012, the body of 32-year-old Michael C. Simpson was discovered in the backyard of a vacant house in the 3000 block of Flora Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. He had been shot multiple times.

The evening before, around 8 p.m., neighbors in the area reported hearing the sound of gunshots, but no one looked outside to see what had happened. It wasn't until approximately 7:50 a.m. the next morning that Simpson's body was found and police were ...
