James Kevin-Vidal Gonzalez, an 11-year-old boy from Rowlett, Texas, tragically passed away on May 6, 2018. James was a student at Coyle Middle School, where he participated in theater and played soccer for Sporting United. He was known for his love of music, soccer, Stranger Things, art, airplanes, and his dogs. James was an intelligent and beloved boy who aspired to become a pilot one day.
The cause of James's death was determined to be a murder-suicide. His father, Policarpo Gonzalez-Flores, shot and killed James before taking his own life. The incident occurred at their home on Mimosa Lane in Rowlett. According to police reports, Policarpo was going through marital problems and had previously made statements about his distress. He called his estranged wife, James's stepmother, and informed her that he had shot their son before committing suicide.
The Rowlett Police Department worked closely with the Garland Independent School District to provide support to students and staff at Coyle Middle School. The community mourned the loss of James, holding a candlelight vigil to honor his memory. James's friends and teachers shared heartfelt stories about his kindness and helpful nature. The school district and counselors were available to support those affected by the tragedy.
No arrests or suspects were involved in this case, as it was determined to be a murder-suicide. There were no ongoing litigations or investigations related to the death, as the incident was resolved with the deaths of both father and son.
James is survived by his mother, Nekoda Bouvier, stepmother, Stephanie Gonzalez, stepfather, Paul Moreno, sisters, Alanna Bouvier and Shelby Moreno, and brother, Michael Lozano. His grandparents, Marcelina Flores, Lisa Bouvier, and Kevin Deubner, also mourn his loss. The community continues to remember James for the bright and caring young boy he was.
