Jose Alfonso Villanueva, a 24-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on July 29, 2018, in Houston, Texas. Villanueva was lured to a remote field in Spring by Karla Jackelin Morales, a 24-year-old woman who claimed they were going to celebrate his birthday by smoking marijuana. However, upon arrival, five members of the MS-13 gang were waiting for him. The gang members were reportedly angry with Villanueva for disrespecting them in a rap battle.
They brutally attacked him with a machete and shot him as he tried to escape.
The investigation into Villanueva's death revealed that Morales had knowingly lured him into a trap set by the gang members. She was later arrested and charged with murder. In August 2023, Morales pleaded guilty to her role in the killing and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. The five gang members involved in the attack were also convicted and sentenced for their roles in Villanueva's murder.
