On December 14, 2025, a tragedy unfolded in northeast Houston, Texas, claiming the life of Jaiden Jackson, an 18-year-old Black male. Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the scene along Salter Road after receiving reports of a vehicle in a roadside ditch. Upon arrival, they discovered a running SUV that appeared to have rolled off the roadway. Inside the driver's seat, Jackson was found unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene, launching a homicide investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
Detectives quickly began gathering evidence, including surveillance footage from the area and witness statements, which helped piece together the events leading up to the shooting. Investigators determined that Jackson had arranged to meet with an individual in a nearby parking lot prior to the discovery of his body. During this encounter, a physical altercation reportedly broke out between Jackson and the other man. The confrontation escalated when the suspect produced a firearm and shot Jackson multiple times before the vehicle rolled into the ditch where it was later found.
Authorities identified the suspect as Ben Jerry Gage Jr., a man who was subsequently taken into custody on Monday, December 15. Following his arrest, Gage was booked into the Harris County Jail. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office filed capital murder charges against him in connection with Jackson's death. While the specific motive for the initial meeting and the subsequent argument remains part of the ongoing inquiry, the swift arrest provided some answers in the immediate aftermath of the violence.
