Adriana Perez, a 41-year-old woman of Hispanic ethnicity, tragically lost her life on October 2, 2018, in Houston, Texas. She was killed by her husband, Jordy Husein Suljanovic, a 46-year-old Bosnian refugee and long-haul truck driver. Suljanovic discovered his wife and her boyfriend, Omar Santamaria-Ruiz, 33, in their home through a hidden camera he had installed.
Enraged by what he saw, Suljanovic returned home and shot both Adriana and her boyfriend in the master bedroom closet.
After committing the murders, Suljanovic and his 21-year-old son, Jordy Suljanovic Jr., transported the bodies to Louisiana. Santamaria-Ruiz's body was dumped in the woods outside Natchitoches, Louisiana, while Adriana's body was disposed of near the Atchafalaya River outside Baton Rouge. The younger Suljanovic later pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and received a five-year prison sentence.
Suljanovic attempted to flee to Bosnia with his two young daughters, his son, and his son's girlfriend, but was detained in London and extradited back to Houston. He was arrested by the Houston Police Department and the FBI. In March 2023, Suljanovic was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
