On the afternoon of Saturday, August 31, 2013, 29-year-old Corey M. Knight was killed in a violent incident in Kansas City, Missouri. The shooting took place at approximately 3:30 p.m. at a residence located in the 4700 block of East 40th Place on the city's east side. Authorities arrived at the scene to find Knight deceased.
The investigation revealed that the incident was a drive-by shooting. At the time of the attack, Knight was standing inside the front doorway of the home. A second male victim, identified in reports as Knight's cousin, was standing on the porch and sustained critical injuries, specifically a gunshot wound to the arm. Emergency responders transported the surviving victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. Two young children were also present inside the house during the gunfire but were reportedly unharmed.
Witnesses and initial police reports provided a description of the suspects and their vehicle. Authorities searched for two Black males who were seen driving a gold-colored SUV, believed to be a Chevrolet Tahoe, featuring large chrome wheels. The vehicle was observed speeding away from the scene immediately following the shooting. Law enforcement officials urged anyone with information regarding the occupants of the vehicle or the circumstances of the crime to contact the local TIPS hotline. No immediate arrests were reported in the wake of the homicide.
