Adan Lozano, a 28-year-old Hispanic man, was enjoying a night out with his family in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, Texas, when they decided to head home. He chose to stay a little longer, a decision that ended in tragedy in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 22, 2019. His family had no idea it would be the last time they would see him alive.
Around 2:45 a.m., Lozano was inside a 7-Eleven convenience store in the 2600 block of Main Street.
Surveillance video showed him interacting with another man at the cash register, even sharing a friendly fist bump before paying for his items. As Lozano left the store, that same man and two other individuals who had been waiting outside began to follow him through a paid parking lot. Lozano appeared unaware he was being targeted and never looked back. The group cornered him, and he was shot multiple times. A second person, who was sitting in a car nearby, was struck by a stray bullet but survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Lozano was rushed to Baylor University Medical Center, where he died from his wounds.
Dallas police detectives launched an investigation, releasing the chilling surveillance footage to the public. The video captured the three suspects following Lozano and later running through the streets near the corner of Main and Good-Latimer after the shooting. Detective Tonya McDaniel described the suspects cornering Lozano "almost like some sharks."
In the days and weeks that followed, authorities arrested three people in connection with the crime. Kelsey Jabari Wade Young, 17, who police identified as the shooter, was taken into custody and charged with capital murder and aggravated assault. A second teen, 17-year-old Deandre Wright, was also arrested and faced the same charges. The third suspect, 29-year-old Jasmine Sherese Williams, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Henderson County and booked into the Dallas County jail on July 5, 2019. She was also charged with capital murder.
With all three suspects arrested and charged, the case proceeded into the court system. The last reported development was the arrest of Jasmine Williams in July 2019.
