On June 27, 2019, 16-year-old A'mya Batie, a cheerleader at Allen High School in Lewisville, Texas, was tragically shot and killed in the parking lot of the Lakeland Plaza shopping center. A'mya, who was African American, was with a man who was also shot and critically injured. The two victims attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle but crashed shortly after. A third person suffered minor injuries, though it is unclear how and where that person was injured.
