Marc Anthony Ramirez, a 22-year-old Hispanic male, was found dead on July 15, 2019, in San Antonio, Texas. His body was discovered on the side of the road near Rustic Oak and Running Springs by a delivery driver. The medical examiner determined that Ramirez died from a gunshot wound to the head, and his death was ruled a homicide. This incident marked the 11th murder in Bexar County for the year 2019, matching the total number of murders for the previous year.
The investigation into
Ramirez's death revealed that he had met Aliza Cantu, a 26-year-old woman, on the social media app MocoSpace. On the night of July 14, 2019, Ramirez picked up Cantu, and they spent the evening drinking beer and smoking methamphetamine. At some point during the night, Cantu shot Ramirez in the head and stole his Infiniti SUV. Ramirez's body was later found by a passing driver.
Law enforcement officials quickly identified Cantu as a suspect. Investigators found Ramirez's Infiniti SUV at Cantu's residence, along with a single .32 caliber shell casing and a large amount of blood inside the vehicle. Further evidence showed that Cantu had pawned Ramirez's jewelry, including a gold necklace and a pair of earrings, which was corroborated by video surveillance from the pawn shop.
Cantu was arrested a few days after the murder and confessed to the crime. She was charged with murder and later pled guilty in the 186th District Court. On August 18, 2022, Cantu was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of Marc Anthony Ramirez. The case highlighted the dangerous consequences of drug abuse and the tragic loss of a young life.
