Cedric Jermaine Gordon Sr., a 34-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on August 10, 2019, in Houston, Texas. Cedric was fatally shot in northeast Houston when he arrived at a semi-rural property on Kowis Street to visit a female friend. Upon his arrival, he was confronted by Larry Rodriguez, a 45-year-old man, who shot him. Despite being wounded, Cedric managed to get back into his car and attempted to drive away.
Unfortunately, he lost control of the vehicle and ended up in a roadside ditch. While Cedric was still in his car, Rodriguez approached him again and shot him multiple times, ultimately killing him.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident and later apprehended Larry Rodriguez. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Brett Batchelor, with the trial lasting five days. During the trial, it was revealed that Rodriguez had a history of violent behavior, including three additional aggravated assault charges. These charges included hitting a man with a large metal bar, stabbing another man in the face with a pocket knife, and pushing a man into a concrete pole, causing severe head injuries. The jury found Rodriguez guilty of murder, and he was subsequently sentenced to life in prison by a Harris County judge.
The District Attorney, Kim Ogg, emphasized the dangers of gun violence and domestic violence, noting that such incidents often escalate. She expressed gratitude to the jury and the Assistant District Attorney for their work on the case, highlighting the importance of removing dangerous individuals like Rodriguez from the streets to ensure public safety. Cedric Jermaine Gordon Sr.'s family was left to mourn the loss of their loved one, a victim of senseless violence.
