Gerald Wayne Harris, a 59-year-old homeless man, was found with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of a Lake Highlands shopping center in Dallas, Texas, on August 19, 2019. The investigation into Harris's death led to the arrest of
Reginal Reshard Knox, a 21-year-old man, on October 3, 2019. Knox was charged with capital murder after confessing to the shooting. According to police, Knox was seen on surveillance cameras riding away on Harris's bicycle after the shooting. The arrest was made possible due to tips from viewers of a local news segment called "Trackdown." Knox was apprehended by U.S. marshals at the Dallas Greyhound station as he was getting off a bus.
Further details revealed that Knox's brother had been shot and killed by Dallas SWAT officers the previous week. Knox's brother was allegedly part of a group wanted for robbing and murdering the owner of the Delicious Café. Detectives suspected that Knox would return home for his brother's funeral, which led to his arrest. Knox is currently in custody on a capital murder warrant, and his bond has not been set at this time.
