Anthony Strather Jr., a 17-year-old African American male, was fatally shot on October 17, 2019, in Arlington, Texas. Strather, a senior at Bowie High School and a starting defensive end on the football team, was attempting to break up a fight when he was shot. He was well-liked and had aspirations of playing college football and eventually becoming a coach.
The incident occurred in front of a house on Cliffside Drive, where Strather and his friend, Marcus Hendrix, were confronted by a
group of males who exited a car and began taunting Hendrix. The situation escalated into a physical altercation, and Strather stepped in to protect his friend. During the confrontation, one of the group members pulled out a gun and began shooting, resulting in Strather's death and injuries to Hendrix and a neighbor.
Following the incident, two 18-year-old males, Keyon Flynn and Alexander Onyeador, were arrested and charged with murder in connection with Strather's death. Both suspects were identified as members of a local gang known as "MUH". The investigation revealed that the suspects had been involved in a series of aggressive confrontations leading up to the shooting.
