George Sylvester Soto, a 25-year-old Hispanic male, was found dead on December 5, 2019, in a home located in Corpus Christi, Texas. Soto, along with another victim, Daniel Rene Garza, 26, was discovered with gunshot wounds inside a residence on Elgin Street. The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the identities of both men and determined that they had died from gunshot wounds. The police responded to a shooting call and found the two men deceased at the scene.
The investigation into their deaths was immediately classified as a homicide.
The investigation revealed that Jose Luis Ramirez, a 27-year-old male, was the primary suspect in the murders of George Sylvester Soto and Daniel Rene Garza. Witnesses informed detectives that Ramirez believed Garza and Soto had been involved with the mother of his child, which led to a confrontation. According to an arrest affidavit, Ramirez had called Garza before the shooting, accusing him of having a relationship with his child's mother. The argument escalated, and Ramirez allegedly shot both Garza and Soto in the head.
Ramirez was arrested by U.S. Marshals and the Gang Unit officers a day after the shooting. He was found in possession of a .45 caliber handgun, which was later confirmed to be the weapon used in the murders. Ramirez was subsequently indicted by a Nueces County Grand Jury for capital murder of multiple persons. He remains in Nueces County Jail with a bond set at $1 million. The case against Ramirez is ongoing, and he faces charges of capital murder for the deaths of George Sylvester Soto and Daniel Rene Garza.
