Daniel Rene Garza, a 26-year-old Hispanic male, was found dead on December 5, 2019, in a home on Corpus Christi's Westside. The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office identified Garza and another victim, George Slyvestor Soto, a 25-year-old Hispanic male, both of whom had gunshot wounds. The police responded to a shooting call at the 1200 block of Elgin Street, where they discovered the bodies. The investigation was immediately classified as a homicide.
The investigation revealed that Jose Luis Ramirez, a 27-year-old male, was the primary suspect in the murders. Witnesses informed detectives that Ramirez believed Garza and Soto had engaged in a sexual relationship with the mother of his child. This belief allegedly led Ramirez to confront Garza and Soto, resulting in the fatal shooting. Ramirez was known to frequent the house where the murders took place, and he was someone the victims would have allowed inside.
Ramirez was arrested on December 6, 2019, by Corpus Christi Gang Unit officers and U.S. Marshals. He was found in possession of a .45 caliber handgun, which was later confirmed to be the murder weapon. The gun casings matched those found at the crime scene, and blood was discovered on the weapon, Ramirez's clothes, and cash totaling $2,400 in his possession. Ramirez also had an injury on his left hand, consistent with injuries sustained from firing a weapon.
Ramirez faced multiple charges, including capital murder of multiple persons, assault causing bodily injury to a family member, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and theft of a firearm.
