Brandon Edwards Sr. was a 37-year-old Black man from Corpus Christi, Texas, remembered by loved ones as a family man who was always cracking jokes. His death left a void in the lives of his family, including children who lost their stepfather and a wife who lost her husband.
On April 7, 2022, Edwards was fatally shot on the 1400 block of Maryland Drive in Corpus Christi.
Officers with the Corpus Christi Police Department responded to the scene and launched a homicide investigation into his death.
In the week that followed, investigators identified two suspects and secured murder warrants for both men. The first suspect, 41-year-old Deontaye Carter, was located and arrested by police on a Thursday at a residence on the 6900 block of Everhart Road. He was charged with murder and booked into jail on a $1 million bond.
On the evening of April 14, 2022, the second suspect, 44-year-old Alonzo Jackson, turned himself in to authorities. He was also charged with murder and held at the Nueces County Jail on a $1 million bond. As of April 2022, both men were in custody and facing charges in connection with the death of Brandon Edwards.
