On January 8, 2020, Callisha Parks, a 40-year-old Black female from Dallas, Texas, was fatally shot in the 1300 block of Baden Street in the Oak Cliff neighborhood. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots as Parks exited a red SUV and attempted to flee on foot. She collapsed in a nearby field and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Leon Lacy, a 30-year-old Black male, was arrested in connection with Parks' murder.
According to police reports, Lacy was driving the SUV from which the shots were fired. Investigators found a .380 caliber handgun in plain view in the car, along with ammunition matching the casings found at the crime scene. Lacy was taken into custody and is currently being held in Lew Sterrett Jail, although his bail has not yet been set.
The investigation revealed that Lacy initially claimed he was in the area looking for a girlfriend or wife but denied any involvement in the shooting. However, evidence collected at the scene and witness testimonies led to his arrest on a murder charge.
This tragic incident marked the first homicide of 2020 in Dallas, and the case remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather more information and build their case against Lacy.
