In the small community of Pecos, New Mexico, the life of 33-year-old Hispanic female, Renee Romero, was tragically cut short on October 28, 2023. On that Saturday, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was summoned to a residence at 94 North Main Street to investigate two suspicious deaths. Inside the master bedroom, they discovered the bodies of Romero and a male individual, identified as 30-year-old Thomas Bastien, also from Pecos.
Both individuals had sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
Prior to the discovery, in the early hours of the morning, a 17-year-old juvenile within the house reported hearing a verbal altercation erupt between Romero and Bastien. The argument was soon followed by the sound of gunshots emanating from the bedroom. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found both Romero and Bastien deceased. The Office of the Medical Investigator officially pronounced them dead at the residence. The New Mexico State Police have been investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
